I am a first-generation Asian American and a child of Japanese and Korean immigrants. Growing up in the Chicagoland area, I am a proud Midwesterner, calling the unceded lands of the Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Bodéwadmiakiwen, Miami, and Oceti Šakówiη people my diaspora home.

Currently, I am a graduate student at the University of Minnesota in the School of Kinesiology (Sociology of Sport) and a Diversity of Views and Experience (DOVE) Fellow with the Graduate School Diversity Office. I earned a BS summa sum laude from Northeastern University in Sociology in 2023.

My research interests lie at the intersection of sport studies and Asian American studies, where I aim to explore the experiences, constructions of, and meaning-making around Asian diaspora athletes in mainstream, conventional institutions of sport. Rooted in my life context as a former elite athlete, I am interested in how historical legacies of sporting institutions impact the ways in which dynamics of power are navigated and negotiated by athletes with marginalized identities. In particular, I aim to tackle questions surrounding capitalism and surveillance, empire and White supremacy, and resistance and liberation within sport and physical culture.

I am also a dedicated synchronized skating coach, working with the Northernettes Synchronized Skating Teams in the Twin Cities as an assistant coach for the Juvenile team. I was previously an athlete with the Haydenettes, competing with the team for three seasons.

interests and hobbies

At Northeastern University (2018 - 2024), I was a staff member for the Asian American Center on campus, creating spaces for cultural celebration and relationship-building rooted in Asian American community values. As a student, I was a leading organizer with the Social Justice Resource Center on campus, serving as the co-director of Students Advancing Intersectional Dreams. With SAID, I had the privilege of working in true intersectional coalition-building spaces where I was introduced to the power of community and collective liberation. The lessons learned from these spaces are knowledge I carry into everyday life.

I am also an avid sports fan, from the NFL to the Olympics, and appreciate the culture, fashion, politics, and emotions that make being a fan interesting and fun. As someone who grew to love the NBA in Boston, I especially love rooting for the Celtics.
